Inspiration

Cities face increasing challenges in ensuring public safety due to delayed detection of accidents, crimes, fires, and other emergencies. We wanted to create an AI-powered solution that can identify incidents in real time and help emergency responders act faster, ultimately making cities safer and reducing response time.

What it does

CityGuard AI is an intelligent urban safety and incident detection platform that uses Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision to analyze CCTV footage and sensor data. It detects road accidents, fires, suspicious activities, abandoned objects, and overcrowding. When an incident is identified, the system instantly alerts the appropriate emergency services, displays the incident on a live map, and assigns a priority level for faster decision-making.

How we built it

The proposed solution combines React for the user interface, Node.js and Express.js for the backend, MongoDB for data storage, and Python with YOLOv8 and OpenCV for AI-based incident detection. Google Maps API is used to visualize incident locations, while Firebase Cloud Messaging can be used for instant notifications.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing a system capable of detecting multiple types of incidents accurately while minimizing false alarms. Another challenge was planning a scalable architecture that supports real-time processing and fast emergency notifications.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We designed an AI-driven concept that combines computer vision, real-time alerts, and location-based emergency response into a single platform. Our solution focuses on improving public safety through faster incident detection and smarter emergency management.

What we learned

During this project, we explored the use of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, object detection models like YOLO, real-time data processing, and the importance of integrating AI with modern web technologies for smart city applications.

What's next for CityGuard AI

Future improvements include integrating drones for surveillance, IoT sensors for environmental monitoring, predictive analytics for crime and disaster prevention, multilingual citizen reporting, and deployment as a city-wide emergency response platform.
