CityGem

Inspiration:

Driven by the desire to find niche spots while exploring a new city and to hear from local community voices about hidden gems in the vicinity.

What it does:

Catalogues popular and niche tourist locations in a city with an AI that plans a travel itinerary based on specific user interests.

How we built it:

We first created design iterations in Figma during the ideation process and then we coded a draft in html. Finally, with the assistance of Claude, we added in Javascript functions and implemented GeminiAPI to create an MVP.

Challenges we ran into:

We had minimal experience and, for 2/3 members of our team, this was our first hackathon. Specifically, API integration was very difficult because we have never worked with it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Building a working user interface and bringing our concept to life!

What we learned:

How to implement a project, starting from ideation to perfecting the code.

What's next for CityGem:

There are a few more features we would like to implement, such as specifying transportation details. Also, we would like to create a mobile implementation and get community feedback about our product.
