Inspiration
We were inspired to do this app mainly because for our needs, because, as students, time is very important for us ("live while you are young", they say) and we always aim to waste as much time as possible getting from a place to another. Since almost none of has has a car, public transport is the main means of getting where we want in the city. We also wanted a fast way of finding out how much time we have to wait for the bus to arrive (or soon the boat) and also to see the best route I can take from one place to another.
What it does
It shows you a map with all the stations marked on it. You will be shown the closest station from your physical location with the routes and the times the next means of transport arrives. It also offers you in another tab the posibility to see all the routes (for the bycicles you will see the stations and the number of bycicles in that moment.
How I built it
Backend in python with Flask. Frontend in ionic mobile + angular.js
Challenges I ran into
Getting data in a useful manner from the RATT website. Drawing and interfacing with Google Maps. Using Google Maps together with angular.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Getting data in a useful manner from the RATT website.
What I learned
We learned to better cooperate with my team and generate better ideas by debating, we learned to use the Google Maps API better, we learned to use the Ionic framework and also to HAVE MORE FUN than working alone.
What's next for City Transport Timișoara
Next steps:
- getting a useful map experience for the user
- getting the route and arrival time data displayed in the client
