Inspiration

From childhood, I dreamed of smart and sustainable cities. I sketched cityscapes in my notebooks and told my mother I wanted to be an urban engineer. That vision carried me through university, where I became the first prequalified student in the Urban Planning and Design department at Adigrat University.

Later, I taught myself programming, data science, and AI to bring my digital city vision to life. Even during the challenges of COVID-19 and war, I held onto this dream. City-Pulse is the realization of that vision: a centralized delivery system that empowers communities.

What it does

City-Pulse is a centralized delivery system that:

  • Coordinates deliveries across communities.
  • Tracks mobility and logistics digitally.
  • Creates shared income streams for veterans, widows, and marginalized groups.
  • Bridges infrastructure gaps by combining digital innovation with social inclusion.

How we built it

  1. Conceptualization: Identified the need for a centralized delivery system to unify earning opportunities.
  2. Community engagement: Worked with injured veterans and widows to design a system that meets their needs.
  3. Digital backbone: Applied skills in coding, machine learning, and AI to create the framework.
  4. Organizational support: Established the Tigray Empowerment Network to incubate and scale the project.

Challenges we ran into

  • Financial constraints: Limited funding for digital infrastructure.
  • Digital literacy gaps: Training community members to use the system effectively.
  • Trust building: Convincing people to adopt a new centralized system after instability.
  • Technical hurdles: Ensuring scalability and integration with renewable mobility solutions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Becoming the first prequalified Urban Planning and Design student at Adigrat University.
  • Founding the Tigray Empowerment Network to incubate community projects.
  • Designing City-Pulse as a digital backbone for empowerment.
  • Inspiring veterans and widows to see themselves as active participants in rebuilding.

What we learned

  • Digital innovation can transform urban planning into inclusive systems.
  • Community empowerment requires both infrastructure and trust.
  • Resilience is essential when building projects in post-conflict environments.
  • Project incubation is a skill that combines vision with organizational structure.

What's next for City-Pulse

  • Scaling the platform to serve more communities across Tigray.
  • Integrating renewable energy into delivery logistics.
  • Expanding training programs to improve digital literacy.
  • Seeking partnerships and funding to ensure sustainability.

Mathematically, the efficiency of centralized delivery can be modeled as:

[ \text{Efficiency} = \frac{\text{Total Deliveries}}{\text{Time} \cdot \text{Cost}} ]

By minimizing both time and cost through digital coordination, City-Pulse maximizes community benefit.
