City Life Nezha
In a futuristic version of the world, the rebellious Nezha stirs up trouble in Neo Shanghai, pranking and damaging the city powerlines. He always wanted to see the stars, but the electric lights and neon signs block the starry skies' own natural light.
With the city going into a blackout, the Ao Guang, CEO of Dragon Tech Industries, is quickly angered by Nezha's feat. He sends his half-sea dragon son, Ao Bing, to hunt down after Nezha, and put that demon where he belongs in prison cells beneath the tall skyscraper palace of Dragon Tech Industries.
Nezha
Born a demon to human parents Li Jing and Lady Yin, 500-year-old Nezha is a natural rebel. He is mischievous and loves to have fun. One day Nezha gets more than what he bargains for when he decides to play a prank on the city powerlines. For protection’s sake, his teacher Taiyi grants him Wind Flame Wheels for speed, the Universe Ring for defense, and a Fire-tipped Spear to fight.
Ao Bing
Ao Bing is the 700-year-old third son of the prominent CEO of Dragon Tech Industries. He inherited the powers of the East Sea from his part-dragon father, gaining power over water and ice. His family holds a monopoly on Neo Shanghai’s economy. Loyal to his father, he hunts down those who cause trouble to the city and his family’s business. He is rather unhappy about Nezha’s damage to the city powerlines.
Inspiration
City Life Nezha is inspired by the Chinese folklore story -- Nezha. I am passionate about Chinese mythology and stories as a Chinese American.
In the original story, Nezha was born after his mother was pregnant with him for three years, and had a demonic appearance upon birth. His father hated him. He was born with supernatural powers, and had a teacher, Taiyi, helping him contain his powers. He was also quite mischievous.
One day, the East Sea Dragon King Ao Guang refused to give rain to the village that Nezha lived in. Nezha, unaware of current happenings, decided to take a bath in the ocean, rumbling the ocean floor. Ao Guang decides to send his third son, Ao Bing, after Nezha, to fight him to death.
What it does
The concept art serves as character sheet references and ideas for my future game, City Life Nezha.
What's next for City Life Nezha
I would love to expand the world of City Life Nezha more, going into other Chinese folklore, such as inspirations from the Journey to the West with Sun Wukong, or the story of Chang'e, the Chinese moon goddess.
