Inspiration
We took inspiration from regional currencies and DAOs(Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) to give power back to the community while promoting community engagement through incentivizing with tokens.
What it does
Allows users to mint(create) city-specific tokens on the Polygon blockchain, a Proof of Stake blockchain with powerful computing abilities. It allows citizens of cities to vote on matters using the token, buy merchandise using the token, and leverage that power against the local government to give back power to the community. Instead of the usual DAO implementation of the voting power through token ownership, our project aims to give equal voice to all residents if they have over a certain threshold of tokens.
How we built it
We used React.js for the frontend application and Solidity with Hardhat to deploy smart contracts to the Polygon PoS(Proof of Stake) blockchain. We had each team member work on different aspects of the application, from design to Web3 web development.
Challenges we ran into
Deciding on which tech stack to stick to was difficult due to members' various technical backgrounds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning Web3 integration to React.
What we learned
Solidity, React, using states to connect to Web3.
What's next for Gotham
Each city gets a single DAO We can't stop other people from making a DAO for the city, but only one DAO can be verified on our app we are not "verifiers," but our app is a registry of city DAOs, and how to get verified is that you can only finish the verification process through voting and there must be a percentage of the city's population that has voted before the DAO is verified
Only approve DAOs when >= 5% of population # has voted for DAO's voting mechanism, token allocation, treasury manager, key issues/goals/plans of the city, etc
purchasing land for utility (investments, resources for DAO), but also for leverage against the government (decision-making through polls)
voting on allocation of city's resources (e.g. city spending needs to go to fixing streets and public transport, not on building new UCSD colleges)
