Inspiration
Around 2023, My aunt was scammed for 25,000$ from her bank account. This experience made me realize that anyone can fall for scams. Around 73% of U.S Adults have fallen for different kinds of online scams according to Gottfried et al., 2025.
I wanted to make sure that there is a peer reviewed platform for helping anyone and everyone avoid scams. People often miss the signs that a scam is happening,
What it does
Citrine is a peer-reviewed platform with the aims of rewarding community members with points based off of the scams they report.
How I built it
I originally built Citrine as an avalonia app, with the main goal being to prevent scams from happening live, I then realized that I would have no way to read emails, or calls through my app without privacy breaches taking place.
After realizing this, I thought of the peer review system much like BugCrowd, Or bug bounty programs. I started to focus on Citrine being a community of people coming together to prevent scams. I wanted to be able to support multiple platforms, not just desktop. I started with Vite, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and set up an express server with SQLite database to create a consistent database regardless of platform
Challenges I ran into
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- I'm proud of the way the UI turned out and the parity within the web app and desktop app. ## What I learned I learned how to utilize Codex, MCP, and skills to create an mockup app! ## What's next for Citrine A complete overhaul is in the works, As this is a hackathon project. It is not polished :) I would love to see where citrine could go in the future and am open to all possibilities
