Inspiration

We realized how often we binge on applications on our computer. We can spend hours and hours playing games or watching videos. Therefore, we decided that a good project for our skillset was creating an application that reminds the user to take breaks.

What it does

Citri reminds users to take a break if an application has been open for over an hour with a pop-up. The user can choose to accept it and take a break, or delay the reminder for another 10 minutes (like a snooze function in an alarm clock). The user can also set a custom time (if an hour is too much or too little), and a custom delay time.

How we built it

We used Python. Pywinauto was used to find the running applications every second. Tkinter was used to both create the GUI for setting the time and the pop-up application.

Challenges we ran into

For both of us, this was our first hackathon. We didn't have any experience with working on a project on this much of a time crunch. Furthermore, neither of us had created GUIs before, so we had to learn tkinter during these 36 hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we learned

We learned how to create rudimentary GUIs using tkinter, which will be very useful for small projects in the future.

What's next for Citri: the Friendly Reminder

We're thinking of including Mac support in the future along with a cleaner GUI.
