Inspiration

Navigating public welfare programs and government services in Bangladesh is often daunting for everyday citizens due to complex bureaucratical language and scattered information. We built CitizenConnect AI to bridge this gap by providing an accessible, transparent, and easy-to-use digital civic companion in simple Bengali.

What it does

CitizenConnect AI acts as an all-in-one public service assistant:

Smart AI Service Assistant: Translates complex eligibility criteria for programs like Old Age Allowance, TCB Family Cards, and Agriculture Subsidies into plain Bengali via Google Gemini.
Emergency Safety Desk: Provides direct 1-click access to essential national helplines (999, 333, 109) with integrated safety guidance.
Verified Civic Directory: Offers localized information and step-by-step application guidance without collecting sensitive user data.
Ad-Supported Sustainability: Features unobtrusive Google AdSense slots to keep the platform 100% free for citizens while maintaining operational sustainability.

How we built it

Framework & UI: Built with Next.js 15 (App Router), React 19, and Tailwind CSS for low-latency mobile responsiveness.
AI Intelligence: Integrated Google Gemini 2.5 Flash via @google/genai for fast Bengali contextual processing.
Deployment: Hosted on Vercel and Replit for high uptime and rapid execution.
Devin Integration: Devin AI was leveraged to structure local data schemas, refactor multi-language translation components in locales/, and write comprehensive component tests.

Challenges we ran into

Tuning AI responses to explain complex legal and administrative terms in simple, conversational Bengali without losing accuracy.
Ensuring zero logging of sensitive user data (like NID numbers or financial credentials) while providing tailored application guidance.
Designing a high-contrast, accessible UI tailored for citizens using low-end mobile devices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully functional, localized civic assistance interface for Bangladesh public services.
Maintained strict privacy-first architecture with zero processing of national credentials.
Created a self-sustaining civic platform model balancing public accessibility with ad-supported revenue.

What's next for CitizenConnect AI

Voice-First Bangla Navigation: Integrate speech-to-text models for illiterate or visually impaired citizens.
SMS Gateway Integration: Allow citizens without internet access to query government service eligibility via simple SMS.
