Inspiration

After learning more about water quality in an Environmental Engineering course, we wanted not only scientists, but also the community to be able to participate in keeping our waters clean.

What it does

Citizen Water Watch allows the community to report concerns of poor water conditions through a form. This form consists of the location of the water in question, a description of the location, a description of the water quality, check boxes for water characteristics, and optionally a follow up email address.

How we built it

First we drew out a prototype of Citizen Water Watch. Based on the drawn prototype, we decided what should be separate react components and how it would be organized in html. Finally we applied what we learned from the React and CSS workshops and the result was Citizen Water Watch.

Challenges we ran into

As this was our first time developing a web app, the time constraint was a major challenge. Learning new skills and immediately applying them was very challenging but rewarding when we loaded up and interacted with our application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Coming from a drawn prototype to a formatted form that we can interact with.

What we learned

We learned the basics of the React framework and CSS.

What's next for Citizen Water Watch

Citizen Water Watch has a long way to go. As we continue to develop our web application skills, Citizen Water Watch will continue to evolve.
