GOALS:

  • Offer citizens an opportunity through volunteerism to help improve access to public education
  • Increase student attendance by facilitating shorter transit times than presently available by public transportation

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. A citizen driver with an interest in volunteering registers online to drive students to or from school. They post their availability and existing routes.

  2. A parent and student who needs to get to school registers online with their home and school address.

  3. Each user completes a profile with an image, short bio, and contact information.

  4. Drivers, parents, and student are able to search the website to find compatibility for a ride share.

  5. Students and/or drivers contact each other to form a relationship and set up a ride share.

  6. Participants can be verified through reviews and rankings.

FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • The registration would include a mandatory background, insurance, and driving record check.
  • As an incentive, drivers can submit their milage as a tax-deductible donation.
  • Incentives for city employees to participate as volunteer.
