Citiation Bot

Inspiration

Some inspiration we had was a website called "Bib me" that would assist students in citing their sources in a variety of formats. We wanted to take this idea further and make it an automated process by having it complete the citations needed without needing manual input

What it does

It takes in a written piece of work and then checks for any citations in a selected format (MLA and APA). It will then automatically format the piece of work in the chosen format and help cite sources that may not have been inputted into the piece.

How we built it

We built it through several tutorials and online forums which provided valuable insight into the types of APIs and codes we should you

Challenges we ran into

There were many challenges as we are beginners and this is the first real hands-on experience we ever had with programming in general, as such, challenges are something that we ran into very frequently in this project such as getting the API to be properly imported into our code and having our code properly read the given paragraph.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to have our code actually be able to intake an input and give a output which we were not expecting coming into this project

What we learned

We learned how to use APIs and effectively format our code. We also learned some tools for coding such as visual studios and github

What's next for Citation Bot

We want to work on this outside of school. We want to make this into something usable instead of the concept that it is. We want to create something that will help students in their writing without compromising academic honestly, instead enhancing it.
