Inspiration

Certificates are usually reserved for formal achievements, but we thought they could be so much more. Whether it's celebrating a personal milestone, recognizing a friend, or simply creating something funny, everyone should have a fun and beautiful way to make certificates for anything they imagine.

What it does

Cite is a creative certificate design studio where users can design fully personalized certificates from scratch. With a layer based editor, customizable backgrounds, seals, borders, recipient photos, signatures, and multilingual support, users can create certificates for achievements, hobbies, jokes, milestones, or any occasion.

How we built it

We built Cite as a responsive web application with a design-first approach. The editor provides real time editing, drag and drop customization, layer management, image uploads, and high quality exports while maintaining a smooth experience across phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing creative freedom with simplicity. We wanted to include powerful editing features without making the interface overwhelming, so we focused on keeping the workspace intuitive and approachable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of turning a simple idea into a creative experience that encourages people to celebrate themselves and others. Instead of generating generic certificates, users can design something that feels personal, expressive, and worth sharing.

What we learned

This project reinforced how thoughtful design can make creative tools accessible to everyone. Giving users flexibility while maintaining an enjoyable experience was just as important as building the features themselves.

What's next for Cite

We plan to expand the template library, introduce collaborative editing, add more decorative assets and certificate styles, improve printing options, and build a community gallery where users can share and discover creative certificate designs from around the world.
