Inspiration
As an airline pilot at a regional airline, I see a gap in the aviation industry for gathering and disseminating aviation information in a readable format.
What it does
Currently it does 3 things: 1.) It gives information related to a particular flight given a United Airlines flight number, This information consists of coded aviation weather highlighted for prominence, gate and time information, route and filed altitudes, link to show the route and radar on the map, ground stops/ground delay programs, etc.
How we built it
Python, Djago, requests, asyncio, aiohttp, regex, AWS EC2, linux, docker, git, javascript, etc.
Challenges we ran into
Web deployment using docker, database management(still a struggle)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Currently, there are many airline pilots using the webapp on a daily basis for situational awareness. They say it is incredibly convenient and easy to use.
What we learned
The process. It's hard but rewarding.
