Inspiration
Passionate media lovers and wanted an all in one website to see what streaming websites has a piece of media and where to buy a physical media release (Blu-ray / DVD). Essentially, this project aims to combine the features of blu-ray.com which focuses on physical media and IMDB which focuses on media information and what streaming platforms have the media.
What it does
- Media Catalog — Track movies, anime, and TV shows with detailed metadata
- Blu-ray & Price Tracking — Monitor price drops and find the best deals
- Streaming Availability — See where content is available to stream
- AI Recommendations — Get personalized suggestions via Gemini AI
- User Library — Save and organize your watched/favorite content
- Price Charts — Visualize pricing history for Blu-ray releases
- Chatbot — Ask questions about movies, anime, and TV shows
How we built it
Brainstormed ideas for the project and kept reiterating the project with each prompt we gave Codex.
Challenges we ran into
- Certain folders weren't pushed to repo due to git / GitHub technical issues
- API rate limiting made some features inconsistent
- Finding free APIs that could work with our implementation
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created the mvp for our project allowing users to see physical media releases along with where to watch a piece of media digitally
What we learned
- Develop a stronger plan of action
- Think of more ideas / bring more ideas before the event
- Utilizing the GitHub repo more effectively
- Balance the workload more
- Prompting an AI a certain way can increase the effectiveness
- Realized the limits of APIS (Some cost money to use or have limits)
What's next for CineVault
- Optimizing API calls
- Implement game and music tracking
- Implement physical release info for TV shows and anime
- Improving chatbot implementation
- Diversify sources for Blu-ray releases
