Inspiration

Film production begins with a creative idea, but turning that idea into a production-ready plan requires a huge amount of research and coordination. We were inspired by a simple question: What if a film producer could give an AI agent a movie idea and have it help transform that idea into a realistic production plan?

What it does

CinePilot AI is an agentic production intelligence platform designed for media and entertainment workflows. A producer starts with a simple movie brief. CinePilot transforms that brief into a structured production package the agent can help develop. The goal is to move from: Idea → Research → Reasoning → Production Intelligence → Actionable Plan

How we built it

CinePilot combines Gemini, Google Cloud Agent Platform and Parallel Web Search. Rather than sending one large prompt to an LLM, the system is designed as a multi-step agentic workflow. Gemini interprets the producer's request and determines what needs to be researched. Parallel provides current web information, which Gemini can then analyze and synthesize into production recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

1. Authentication and cloud configuration Connecting Gemini APIs and Google Cloud services required careful configuration of authentication, API keys, project settings and permissions. We encountered authentication errors where requests were rejected because the application did not have an established identity. This taught us the importance of separating: Local development credentials API keys, Google Cloud authentication and Production deployment credentials
2. Designing a genuinely agentic workflow Our initial instinct was to create a chatbot that would simply generate a production plan. We realized that this would not demonstrate the full potential of agentic AI.We therefore redesigned the workflow around multiple deterministic steps. This shift from chatbot thinking to workflow orchestration became one of the most important lessons from the project. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of We transformed CinePilot from a concept-generation chatbot into an agentic production intelligence workflow that combines Gemini reasoning with real-world research through Parallel to help turn a movie idea into an actionable production plan. ## What we learned Building CinePilot taught us that agentic AI is not simply about generating better prompts. The more important challenge is orchestration. We learned how to think about an AI application as a sequence of specialized actions: ## What's next for CinePilot AI CinePilot is currently focused on turning a movie concept into an initial production intelligence package. Our longer-term vision is to expand it into a complete AI production assistant capable of supporting: Script analysis Casting research Location scouting Crew planning Equipment planning Production scheduling Budget analysis Risk monitoring Post-production planning Marketing and distribution workflows We also see opportunities to adapt the platform for African film and television production, where access to fragmented production information and specialized resources can be a significant challenge.
