Inspiration

My teammates and I are big fans of the new york times games, and when we started brainstorming, this was one of the few topics we first thought of.

What it does

The app makes a call to ChatGPT's API in order to generate a scheme of emojis based on the summary of the plot of a movie. Then, the user must guess what movie it is after being shown the emojis, and gets to see more emojis each turn as a hint.

How we built it

We used React and JS for this project. We used IMDB API for it's database of movie titles as well as ChatGPT's API to make quick calls via scripts. The Page itself uses elements from Material UI's library of react components.

Challenges we ran into

We are a team of three, and this was a first for two of us. It was very challenging to take advantage of all the tools at our disposal, especialle because before today, the two of us had never even touched javascript, let alone react. It was pretty difficult to learn, and even harder to make use of multiple elements in order to put together an interesting project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite this however, we were able to put the pedals to the metal and get into the nitty gritty of javascript and react. This allowed us to go from absolute beginners, to self proclaimed novices. Additionally, using ChatGPT's API gave us multiple ideas for the future. *wink*

What we learned

Learning new tools may be daunting, but it is always a good idea to put yourself out there. You may never know what you find fun!

What's next for Cinemoji

Apps like this one dont tend to live very long due to their rapid development and then stagnation after the event, but our site will liveon temporarily at http://cinemoji.co/ for you to visit. Happy cracking!
