CineIntel Engine: Source-Aware Film Research

Inspiration

Film-development recommendations are often confident but ungrounded. CineIntel Engine keeps sources, excerpts, retrieval status, and uncertainty visible beside every creative recommendation.

What it does

TrendAnalyst searches the open web for genre evidence. GroundedWriter turns a premise into source-aware screenplay direction. CastingIntel provides bounded affinity signals without presenting subjective judgments as facts. Gemini synthesizes the creative plan while Parallel supplies current web evidence.

How we built it

React, TypeScript, and Vite for the research studio FastAPI and Pydantic for the agent API Gemini 3.7 Flash through Vertex AI ADC Official Parallel Search SDK/API with direct REST fallback Isolated CineIntel Parallel application key stored in Google Secret Manager Titles, URLs, excerpts, publish dates, and RETRIEVED_LIVE_WEB status preserved in results Explicit live errors with no silent fixture fallback

The public judge application now runs in full live mode on Cloud Run revision cineintel-engine-live-00003-6gt. Through the stable Vercel URL, a trend-analysis request returned live URL-bearing Parallel sources with parallel_mode: live. A direct authenticated Search API preflight returned HTTP 200 and ten results. A US$2 monthly application-spend alert is configured; Parallel notes that the alert does not block requests. The Screening Room presents a fixed, pre-generated Veo/Lyria reel, not per-request generation.

Challenges

The hardest problem was separating research evidence from generated interpretation. We normalized provider results, exposed retrieval status, prohibited silent fallback in live mode, and retained explicit uncertainty factors.

What we learned
