Inspiration

Cinder Saints was inspired by the cyclical nature of mass paranoia, the fear-driven decisions of those in power, and how innocent people become victims of collective hysteria. The project draws from historical witch hunts and the uncomfortable parallels with modern “scapegoating” culture. The core question is simple and haunting: In a world that believes fire purifies, who is actually setting the flames?

What it does

Cinder Saints pulls the viewer into a kingdom where a single accusation grows into a violent witch-hunt. The film follows a masked man searching for the truth as fear spreads through the people, and a paranoid king unleashes chaos through his soldiers. Through fire, symbols, stars, and masks, the film builds a visual language that blends emotional storytelling with mythic undertones.

How I built it

I created the project using: • AI video tools (Freepik, Kling, Midjourney, Suno, Higgsfield) • 35mm-inspired cinematic realism • A fully prompt-driven scene creation pipeline Each shot began as a cinematic storyboard, then was built frame by frame with controlled prompts. Finally, scenes were unified in Adobe Premiere Pro with precise timing, sound design, color consistency, and atmospheric layering. The film was crafted entirely through digital tools, but with the discipline of a traditional production.

Challenges I ran into

• Getting AI to avoid overly “fantasy” or inaccurate medieval clothing
• Producing large crowd shots that feel organic
• Maintaining consistent character faces across multiple scenes
• Creating fire, symbols, and nighttime effects without breaking realism
• Preserving chronological and visual consistency between AI-generated shots
• Achieving stable movement and cinematic framing in long or complex sequences

Many scenes required dozens of iterations to reach the desired tone and coherence.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

• Building a visually consistent medieval world entirely with AI
• Maintaining coherent costume tones, lighting, and world-building details
• Achieving a cinematic feeling with minimal dialogue and strong atmosphere
• Assembling a cohesive, emotionally charged teaser from disparate AI shots

What I learned

• AI filmmaking still requires real pre-production—plans, shot lists, and precise direction
• Prompt writing functions like a script: a single word can change the whole scene
• Sound design and music are the strongest anchors of realism
• Minimalism often creates more believable tension than visual complexity
• Color correction and reference frames are crucial for holding the film together visually

What's next for Cinder Saints

The next step for Cinder Saints is to develop the story through episodic sequences, expanding the world piece by piece and building the universe from the ground up. Through these episodes, I aim to reveal the kingdom’s past, the origins of the witch hunts, the transformation of its characters, and the masked man’s role in the larger fate of this world. I also plan to create a broader mythology—symbols, history, and hidden rituals—and produce additional scenes and visual sequences that complete the narrative framework of the short film.
