Inspiration

Named after a Platonic myth, Cicadas Song is a Genius-inspired digital library with a focus on literature.

How it works

The site runs primarily on a Backbone.js front end, straddling a RESTful Rails API. It also uses jQuery, stores images on AWS S3, and supports multi-table lookup through PgSearch.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Users can make annotations on individual parts of texts by highlighting sections. Annotations also update automatically when the text itself is edited. Lastly, users can add images for authors, texts, and even within annotations themselves.

What I learned

What's next for Cicadas Song

Give users the ability to follow texts and thus create their own library. They will soon be able to follow authors and other users as well. Lastly, after a quick omni-auth is implemented, I will add some basic form of user-user messaging.
