Inspiration

Ever been thirsty but just couldn’t muster the energy to grab some water, even with a bottle right there with you? We've all been there. It's not because we are lazy but because we don't always know where the nearst place to refill the water bottle from, The national recommends 13 cups (3.08 liters) and women about 9 cups (2.13 liters) of fluids daily but people only drink an average of 23 ounces (or 0.68L)

A week before Boilermake was announced, the three of us were talking about how water here is very different when compared to Southeast Asia, in terms of minerals, taste, and even scent! When we talked about it more, we realized that we all don't drink enough water. Hence we asked the question, How can we be motivated to drink more water? Chugs!

What it does

Chugs is an application that makes the simple action of drinking enough water/day into a fun game similar to Pokemon Go. The home page is a map that shows you all the chuggies around you, which luckily span around water fountains. This aims to motivate users to grab a drink every time they chase a chuggy.

Want to beat your friends and be the first on the leaderboard? Scan a code when you refill your water bottle. We can't be sure your going to be honest; however, the purpose of this app is to help you help yourself

How we built it

Initially, we used Django and Next.Js frameworks. When we tried integrating MongoDB, we faced a lot of issues. we tried using Node.js before we ultimately moved to Flask and React.js. work was divided on all three of us, however kept rotating. One/two on backend, one on database, one on Frontend.

Challenges we ran into

We found it very challenging to implement our QR scanner, as Flasak_cors privacy was very strict and neither us or the mentor was able to go around it. We figured out a way to make the whole scanner manually without using flask cors at all.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Other than the QR scanner, we are really proud of our 3d map and live location.

What we learned

We learned a lot about enterprise data bases, Google maps API, Sync and mostly how to collaborate. This is the first hackathon for two of us and the second for the third. We also learned that

What's next for Chug – Gamifying Hydration, One Sip at a Time!

APK version should be released soon, we also want to implement a feature where users receive a notification where they need to post a photo of themselves drinking water within a few mins of that notification.
