Watch the current 52-second app demo — Your Comeback Has Paws 🐶

Inspiration

A meal log is easy to forget. A little puppy waiting to celebrate with you is harder to ignore.

ChubbyPuppy started with a simple question: could the small things we do for our health feel more like caring for a companion? We wanted to bring warmth, humor and play to an everyday routine, while keeping the useful parts of a health app close at hand.

What it does

Choose a puppy, give it a name and make the Den its home. Your puppy has let itself get a little chubby, and now you have a companion for your own fresh start. Log meals, move, and record your progress over time; your puppy becomes leaner alongside you. Daily quests and celebrations turn ordinary healthy choices into little moments of shared progress.

The Treat Scanner estimates foods, portions and nutrition from a photo. You review the estimate, adjust the serving and decide what to save. The Snack Court adds a playful verdict; logging a meal earns XP and a puppy celebration. Manual meal entry is available too.

Daily quests, chests, badges, gear and the Path of Paws give that routine a game-like structure. AR play brings the puppy into your space, and the Meme Maker turns a moment into something shareable. Optional Apple Health integration connects supported activity and health information. The app includes iPhone and iPad experiences, a paired Apple Watch companion and widgets.

How we built it

SwiftUI builds the interface, RealityKit brings the puppy to life, and SwiftData keeps profiles and journals on the device. HealthKit supports optional health integration. Firebase AI Logic produces cloud food-photo estimates, while Apple's on-device Foundation Models support coaching and character text on compatible devices.

RevenueCat connects weekly, annual and lifetime products to one Premium entitlement. The purchase flow displays Apple's localized prices and trial eligibility, supports restoration and offer-code redemption, and handles access for new and returning users. Eligible customers can try the annual plan with a three-day introductory trial. Premium is required, and the app does not require a separate account sign-in.

Design and privacy

The visual language is bright and tactile: colorful pills, bouncy text, expressive puppies and small celebrations. We want useful information and playful feedback to belong to the same world. The iPad experience gives that world more space; the Watch companion brings a smaller piece of it to the wrist.

Food-photo sharing requires explicit, revocable consent. The app strips camera and location metadata from the uploaded JPEG and keeps Health history out of the food-analysis request. Users review estimates before saving them locally. The consent screen explains cloud processing and the provider's retention caveats.

Challenges and lessons

The hardest work was making the delightful moments dependable: keeping a chosen puppy and name consistent, making the next action after a scan obvious, simplifying portion edits, separating coach conversations, and making Health information understandable.

We also learned to test the monetization and permission flows as complete journeys. A TestFlight purchase was successfully exercised, and Apple approved the app together with its Premium products. We revised custom permission screens after review feedback so the explanation leads clearly into Apple's native permission request. Sandbox purchase evidence remains separate from production sales.

Release and next steps

ChubbyPuppy is publicly available on the App Store. Its first release was September 15, 2026: version 1.0.1, build 14. The US, UK, Japan and Brazil storefront listings have been verified.

The 52-second demo was captured on the iPhone 17 Pro Max simulator, using the actual native app views with fictional sample data and prepared food-photo results. It shows the core loop and puppy transformation; it does not claim a live AI request, purchase recording or real weight-loss result.

The first growth experiments pair direct app demonstrations with relatable stories about ordinary meals, walks and small fresh starts. ChubbyPuppy appears as a useful companion within those stories. We will compare actual product interest, activation and production purchases, then change the creative and product based on what people do. No unverified install, retention or revenue results are claimed here.
