Ever noticed how your brain remembers the most random stuff?
Yeah, me too. I always found it interesting how I have a thorough knowledge of Star Wars, a series I haven't watched since sixth grade, and yet I struggle to memorize actual history facts.
I also noticed that the little knowledge I do retain about history mostly comes from historical fiction books.
I guess making something boring into something fun and interesting helps make it stick in your brain...
What it does
ChronAI is an idea for an empathy-driven, AI-powered learning tool.
Empathy-driven means that it will help a student visualize a historical event or understand a character by presenting the information as a cohesive narrative.
Essentially, it aims to provide students with the same immersive experience that historical fiction does, which in turn works to make history more engaging and interesting.
Though the amount of historical fiction in the world is limited, the power of generative AI is not, and through the use of the GPT API, it is possible to create an endless repertoire of learning materials.
How we built it
As the app is currently only a concept, it has not been fully implemented.
However, the app will eventual integrate the Chat-GPT API to generate content.
The user interface will feature options to specify details about the text to generate, and the app will then pass these details to the API.
The app will feature a second tool that allows users to browse through material generated by other users. Therefore, the more the app is used, the larger the communal repertoire will grow.
What we learned
Working on this idea opened my eyes to the immense potential of artificial intelligence in the field of education. Previously, I believed that AI could only negatively impact education, as it facilitates academic dishonesty. However, I believe that ChronAI is an example of AI making a positive impact in education.
What's next for ChronAI: Empathy-Driven AI Learning Tool
Of course, the next step for ChronAI would be actual implementation. Creating both the interface and the backend should not be challenging. However, the Chat-GPT API can be expensive, so acquiring funding would likely be the biggest issue.
