inspiration
It started with Minecraft and ended with us helping to close the digital divide... For the fun things in life, you are always willing to go the extra mile... As a 7th grader, I wanted to follow in my brother's footsteps and play Minecraft. I had a Chromebook though... I wouldn't accept defeat and wanted to persevere LOL. It's all a blur but I had to run some Linux commands and wait for a long time for everything to download. AND after ALL of that, it was super laggy and definitely not it. I thought of an idea to use docker instead as it does not consume scarce Chromebook resources, all while making it easy for ANYONE to use.
What it does
Easily launches Linux applications using Docker to download all dependencies for the user.
How we built it
We used HTML/CSS code for the website and Figma for the layout. For the application, we began using node.js and other technologies.
Challenges we ran into
We learned that we had to download Docker to allow the project to work. Regardless, it is easier and better than the original method.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating the web design and application idea.
What we learned
We solidified our skills in Git, Node.js, Docker, HTML and CSS. We also learned that software development takes a long time and may still not deliver everything you envisioned.
What's next for ChromeCut
Developing the specifics, finding a way to do it without downloading Docker on Linux.
