Inspiration
- A react web app that I had developed earlier which allowed the user to track the time they have spent doing each task daily using timers. I wanted to make a similar productivity app but wanted to adapt it so that its a chrome extension.
What it does
- This extension keeps track of the time spent by the user at each website and keeps track of it in a table. If the user ends up spending too much time on a particular website, it will give the user a warning and "black-list" the website, i.e. it will
How I built it
- I built this Chrome Extension using vanilla JavaScript with HTML and CSS used for the design.
Challenges I ran into
- This was my first ever hackathon and since I was looking for teammates on the last day, I was unable to find any. I got into a randomized team but one of the members left and another wasn't interested. I then got very discouraged and decided not to participate in the Hackathon further, also noting that I had to study for my upcoming midterm exam in a few days and do tons of homework. Though despite this, I came back and balanced the development with my academics, knowing very well that I won't be able to give my best but still gave my 100% in what little time I had to at least make a submittable project.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- I was proud that even though I only gave a few hours to this Hackathon and had earlier gived up on the Hackathon for days, I was still able to learn many new things and build a project. ## What I learned
- I learnt how Chrome Extensions work and how I can build one. Undergoing this project also was a great challenge for my JavaScript programming skills. And last but not the least, I enjoyed my first ever hackathon, something which I had longed to do last year but was unable due to COVID and time-zone issues.
What's next for Chrome Extension
- It was quite fun and much simpler to build a Chrome Extension than I thought, and since I'm quite interested in web development, I might work on another Chrome Extension in the future.
