Inspiration

We believe the best use of our skills is so development software that can help others. A color detection web-app is exactly what can help the visually impaired connect with the world around them.

What it does

ChromaVision allows the user to take a picture and analyze the colors in different areas on the screen. The color name, Hex & RGB values are all provided along side a sample of the detected color. Moreover, audio is produced to assist those with more sensitive sight.

How we built it

By organizing the project into multiple tasks , staying on track and planning the time allocated to the project, we were able to complete major aspect's of such a program. By utilizing API's and Databases to accurately detect any shade of a color, the users gain the best experience possible.

Challenges we ran into

Hack-The-Hill is the first hackathon for all members of the team, so we found it very interesting to work on a project for hours at a time. The time needed to complete such a project to its fullest definitely surpasses the time allocated for the hackathon, so giving up features and ideas for the sake of time was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Implementing API's and completing a web app within 36 hours felt extremely accomplishing. Much of the concepts we chose to implement were not taught in class and so it was an excellent opportunity to learn new technologies.

What we learned

Two of the group members had learned how to utilize git and github for the first time which they felt was an excellent and crucial skill to now learn. We also learned how difficult it can be to split up tasks, and come together to accomplish a goal, especially with a tight deadline.

What's next for ChromaVision

We intend to keep ChromaVision going by implementing a version for both ios and android advices through the web. Once this is complete and have learned more about connecting to a variety of devices for a single program, our goal is to turn this web app into a downloadable Mobile phone application.
