Inspiration
When we started thinking about the project, we knew we wanted to do something that helped bring families together. This past year has been one of the most difficult challenges that most of us have faced, and people need something to look forward to during the holidays. Because of that, we thought that making a program with some fun Christmas/holiday games would be the perfect thing to present in this hackathon. We wanted to incorporate both a virtual and a real-world interaction, so our program is perfect for a family that wants to play some Christmas games.
What it does
Our program has three main functionalities. It can display an interactive Christmas message; It provides an interface for a team to play secret Santa and it has a Pictionary game interface.
How I built it
Our team built this program using C++ and a couple of different IDEs. We used GitLab for collaboration.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into a lot of trouble while learning how to manage the chrono library and how to equate the timing of the games (Pictionary)
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
1) First hackathon ever 😊 (Victoria) 2) Completing our project and submitting it; 3) Making a program that I will actually use when playing with my family and friends;
What I learned
We learned a lot about timing in our program. We had never used the Chronos library before nor had we implemented a program that displayed counters. This was our first hackathon flying solo, so I am very happy that we learned how to collaborate online and how to time our work to be able to deliver a final project.
What's next for Christmas wonderland by JVhacks
We want to incorporate graphics into our program and to also automate the secret Santa portion to send emails to each player. This way our program would be inclusive to family members or friends that are in different parts of the world.
