Inspiration

We were inspired by websites like Craigslist, eBay, Fiverr, and other peer-to-peer commission platforms that allow people to connect directly. We wanted to bring that same simplicity to youth employment, making it easy for young people to find work and for communities to get tasks done.

What it does

Chorely is a youth freelancing platform where commissioners can post tasks that don't require prior education or specialized skills. Local youth can browse available "gigs" and choose ones that suit them to earn money independently, while also gaining experience and building connections.

How we built it

We built Chorely using React, Node.js, TypeScript, and HTML, styled with CSS. The project was bootstrapped with Vite, which we chose for its faster build times, allowing us to work more efficiently.

Challenges we ran into

We had many issues with GitHub, especially with properly pushing, pulling, and merging code, since this was our first time using GitHub to host a dynamic website. It was also challenging to integrate map functionality and properly export the data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a functional prototype in just 36 hours, showcasing the potential of Chorely and our idea. We're also proud of developing a tool that can help combat the current unemployment epidemic. While there is room to add more in the future, we are satisfied with the current feature set and UI design.

What we learned

This was both of our first hackathon experiences, and we learned how to work under pressure and with a close deadline. We also learned how to use GitHub more effectively for collaboration, integrate third-party APIs like OpenStreetMap, and build our first dynamic website from scratch.

What's next for Chorely - Youth Freelancing

In the future, we plan to implement an authentication/login system, build a stronger backend using a service like Firebase, and host Chorely on a platform such as Vercel to make it a fully functional and useful website.
