In it's current state, ChoppedAI helps you try out hair styles. Just snap a quick photo, choose which hairstyle you want, and ChoppedAI will generate an image of you. You can change the scene and look at yourself from multiple angles to truly understand if this is a look that you want to commit to. This helps you experiment without the risk of ending up with something you regret. It also helps easily communicate to your barber what exactly you want.

Honestly, the idea for this project originated from a random moment in my personal life. I was due for a haircut, and never really know exactly what to tell the barber. This was also around the time the Gemini Nano Banana model was released, and I was seeing some very impressive demos of its image editing capabilities. At that moment I wondered if there could be a way to solve my problem with Gemini - if I could experiment with my look virtually and show my barber a photo of exactly what I wanted to look like, there's a much higher chance I'll end up with a result I'm happy with.

I've been wanting to start shipping apps for a while. I figured that while this is not really a major pain point, it's something that others might find helpful as well. However, once I started building this out, I started to realize that this could potentially be something much more impactful than helping people try out a few hairstyles.

I believe that AI is going to lead to an age of hyper-personalization. Today's social media is already extremely personalized - it serves you content and ads that you have a very high probability of enjoying based on what it knows about you and your interests. However, this degree of personalization hasn't made it's ways to other parts of our digital lives yet. While a lot of commerce has moved online, the customer experience still has lots of room to improve.

In the future, ChoppedAI will help you create your complete look. It will still help you experiment with hairstyles, but also with clothes, accessories, and makeup. Users should be able to try out any product from any website. While this isn't a complete replacement for the in-person shopping experience as it can't accurately capture how products feel, it's a massive improvement over today's experience shopping online. You get to "try before you buy" virtually.

This being my first app, the learning curve was quite steep. I have some experience with coding but have no experience with SwiftUI or building end-to-end apps. AI tools did most of the actual code-writing for me (I primarily used Gemini). I learnt a ton through the process of building an actual production-grade app (and not just another abandoned vibe-coded hobby project). I was a bit intimidated by the prospect of having to work with payments and in-app subscriptions, but revenue cat made the process seamless!

Since the app is still under review and not live on the App store yet, I have attached a testflight link.
