Inspiration
I've always been very fascinated with peer to peer technologies: napster, bittorrent, bitcoin, airbnb, uber, etc. I wanted to develop a viable p2p tech in the food space. The current iteration is most comparable to something like couch surfing.
How it works
People can post "chops" which is the atomic element of a meal event. Then you get a list of active chops around you sorted by relative location. If you are interested in anything you see you can send a request, and if the chop owner agrees to your request after viewing your profile, you get the exact location.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge right now is typical of any two sided marketplace. It's not very interesting until there is a critical density of users in any area.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I think the UI design came out well. I tried to utilize UIDynamics to delight users and got some good feedback on that.
What I learned
Marketplaces are really tough.
What's next for Chop - Eat together
I'd like to find other developers who would be interested in maintaining this as an open source project. I really think it could be a useful tool that I would use but I think for many reasons for now it should remain a free community.
