Inspiration

As more and more research comes out about the damage being done to our environment, I was inspired to create a website that educates users to become more eco-friendly. We are nearing irreversible damage and if we don't take action now, the consequences will be extreme and fatal.

What it does

Chlorofilm is packed with information from multiple reliable sources including NASA. It lets users in on the harsh reality of the current state of our environment. With so many things going on in the media, the state of our dying planet is easily pushed to the side or confused with false information. It aims to educate as well as connect people together.

How we built it

I used Figma to create a wireframe and used it throughout the hack to stay organized. With the inspect feature, I was able to better understand the layout and which functions to incorperate.

WIth the use of HTML/CSS I was able to do the frontend coding as well as the design portion. I utilized JavaScript to build apart of the upload section of the website where users can soon upload their own photos.

Challenges we ran into

I kept running into a property error in my JavaScript for the upload page. I tried to fix this through youtube tutorials and open source code, but was not successful. I'm planning on reaching out to other developers to get some help with the error in the future. I also had some trouble with the flip cards as the text I implemented was not responding to the CSS portion of the code so I worked around this and replaced them with images and got the result I had envisioned.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of getting a (almost) fully functioning website to work in this timeframe. I got a lot more practice working with JavaScript and am overall really happy with the end product. This is something I'm very passionate about and I'm glad I was able to create something that will hopefully help others.

What we learned

I learned how to get inputs from users and the different CSS properties that played a huge role in getting my website to look the way it did on my Figma wireframe.

What's next for Chlorofilm

In the future I plan on fixing the upload feature so users can upload their images and build a community working towards a common goal. I also want to add a chat feature so people can interact with each other.
