Chizhinime Portfolio
Inspiration
I’ve always admired portfolios that tell a story rather than just list skills. The inspiration for this project came from my love for clean, minimal designs combined with a playful pixel-art aesthetic. I wanted to create something that felt personal, professional, and fun, a site that reflects both my technical journey and my creative side.
What it does
The portfolio is a personal showcase website where visitors can:
- Learn about me and my background.
- Explore projects I’ve worked on, with details like tech stack, GitHub links, and live demos.
- View my skills and tools at a glance.
- Contact me directly.
It’s designed to be responsive, so it works well across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
How we built it
The project was built with:
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for structure, styling, and interactivity.
- Styling: Custom CSS for pixel-themed design, focusing on vibrant colors, sharp edges, and responsive layouts.
- Deployment: Hosted on Vercel for smooth and reliable deployment.
- Tools: Git & GitHub for version control, VS Code for development, and Figma for design planning.
A key part of the build was ensuring pixel-perfect rendering, which required careful handling of layout grids, CSS transforms, and device pixel ratios.
Challenges we ran into
- Pixel Art + Responsiveness: Making sure the design stayed crisp and aligned on both small and large screens was harder than expected.
- Asset Optimization: Balancing sharp visuals with small file sizes required experimentation with PNG and WebP formats.
- Cross-browser issues: Sub-pixel rendering sometimes blurred edges, which meant I had to adjust CSS rules and scaling to snap elements to the pixel grid.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully combining a creative aesthetic (pixel art) with professional usability.
- Building a responsive site that feels consistent across devices.
- Deploying and hosting the site on Vercel with smooth performance.
- Creating something that genuinely feels like “me,” both in design and in content.
What we learned
- The importance of designing with constraints: pixel art forced me to think carefully about placement, alignment, and color.
- How to optimize assets for the web without losing quality.
New techniques for handling high-DPI screens by scaling the canvas and ensuring crisp rendering
Improved deployment workflow with GitHub + Vercel.
What's next for Chizhinime Portfolio
- Adding accessibility features (keyboard navigation, screen reader support, high-contrast mode).
- Creating a dark theme and other customizable styles.
- Expanding the projects section with case studies that explain process, not just results.
- Adding a blog section where I share tutorials, coding lessons, and reflections on my journey.
- Continuous refinement to keep the portfolio aligned with my growth as a developer.
