ChitinAI — Autonomous Agent Monitoring & Self-Healing Framework

💡 Inspiration

Modern AI workflows rely on complex autonomous agents, but prompt drift, silent failure modes, and unmonitored behavior create catastrophic breakdowns in production. Existing observability tools only track latency and cost—they don't heal broken agents. Inspired by biological resilience, ChitinAI was built to act as an automated immune system for agentic AI: detecting system degradation, analyzing prompt diffs, and self-healing agent workflows in real-time.

⚙️ What it does

ChitinAI is an enterprise-grade agentic monitoring and self-healing resilience framework.

  • Real-time Drift Detection: Continuously evaluates agent responses against historic outputs using high-dimensional vector embeddings.
  • Auto-Healing Engine: Dynamically rewrites and patches degrading system prompts before end-users experience failures.
  • Audit Dashboard: Provides a clear, real-time React visualization of prompt diffs, system health metrics, and incident timelines.
  • Vector-Driven Memory & Alerts: Stores semantic logs in CockroachDB vector memory and instantly triggers operational incident alerts via Slack.

🏗️ How we built it

  • Backend Framework: Built with FastAPI (Python) for asynchronous, high-throughput log ingestion and real-time execution.
  • AI & Self-Healing Core: Powered by AWS Bedrock for high-accuracy semantic drift evaluation and prompt auto-remediation.
  • Vector Database: Utilized CockroachDB Serverless (Vector Search) to index, query, and compare execution traces with low latency.
  • Frontend & Dashboard: Crafted with React to provide an interactive developer console featuring prompt diffing, status monitors, and manual overrides.
  • Deployment & Hosting: Containerized and deployed on Replit for seamless execution.

🥊 Challenges we ran into

  • Sub-Second Drift Detection: Calculating vector similarities and evaluating semantic degradation on every agent response without introducing latency spikes required aggressive optimization of vector querying in CockroachDB.
  • Graceful Fallbacks: Designing a self-healing feedback loop via AWS Bedrock that dynamically generates valid prompt patches without causing hallucinations or breaking downstream agent execution logic.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • True Autonomous Healing: Successfully engineered an architecture where an agent can detect its own output decay and patch its system prompts with zero downtime.
  • Zero-Infrastructural Overhead: Deployed a full-stack, enterprise-ready monitoring system using AWS Bedrock and CockroachDB Serverless.
  • Production-Grade UX: Delivered a sleek dashboard that makes complex prompt diffs immediately understandable for developers.

📚 What we learned

  • Prompt Analytics vs. Observability: True agent observability isn't just passive telemetry; it requires proactive, closed-loop interventions.
  • Semantic Memory Efficiency: Structuring high-dimensional embeddings effectively in CockroachDB dramatically reduces query costs while maintaining semantic accuracy.

🔮 What's next for ChitinAI

  • Multi-Agent Orchestration Support: Expanding native self-healing support to complex multi-agent frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen).
  • Automated A/B Prompt Testing: Introducing automated canary deployments for healed prompts before pushing them to 100% of production traffic.
  • Enterprise Webhook Integrations: Expanding alerting pipelines beyond Slack to PagerDuty, Datadog, and custom Webhooks.
