Inspiration

The Coronavirus has been hard for people all around the world. It has cut off communication, isolated people, and in our case left people helpless. In fact, we ourselves have witnessed the effects of isolation negatively affecting our mental health. People with drug addiction and those in rehab have been especially hard hit and have been unable to get the support they need. It was hard to believe that people may be dealing with quarantine in a much worse way than us, so we decided that it is important to solve these issues with our privilege, the knowledge it takes to code. Furthermore, we observed the financial difficulty that many people were going through among these times, therefore increasing our concern of drug use.

Chiron is a combination of our personal experiences, and our observations of rampant drug use at school. Sit back, relax, and introduce yourselves to Chiron, the app made to solve drug abuse.

What it does

Chiron is simple, it connects those in rehab with their admins, or rehab workers. It gives admins advanced monitoring tools to look over their patients and gives patients tools to help them better cope with their addictions. Using Chiron both admins and patients can benefit.

Admins can see when their patients were intoxicated and which drugs they used. Admins can leverage the power of AI and advanced mathematics to analyze their patient's progress effectively.

On the other hand, patients have a way of communicating their progress to their admins. They can get the support and guidance that they need. In addition patients can also use a calculator to calculate their dosage requirements.

The whole point of Chiron is to provide admins and patients with tools to make their at-home rehab as easy, safe, and financially effective as possible.

How I built it

We used opencv for the image recognition and ocular analysis.

We used html, css, and bootstrap for the webpages.

We attempted to use react for the backend.

Challenges I ran into

Our group believes in honesty and we admit that the project did not come together as we would have liked it to. We used a new framework this time, react, something our web developers had no experience in, and due to the unfamiliarity we were unable to make a successful prototype.

The idea behind using react was that it was supposed to be a learning opportunity and our web developers learnt quite a bit from the hackathon, they were unsuccessful in properly implementing the idea however.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Although our prototype did not come along as we would have liked we are proud of our idea. Our team belives in the power of ideas and we are proud that we were able to recognize a large and unrecognized problem and come up with a solution to it.

We hope that our idea can take fruition and truly help those suffering.

What I learned

We learned a lot about react and client side render. It was a great learning opportunity and we are proud that we got the opportunity to experiment with the framework.

What's next for Chiron

Our web developers aim to teach themselves react and make the idea come to life. In the oncoming days they hope to improve their skills and make Chiron a reality!
