Inspiration
We wanted to build something with lots of potential for growth. Even after where we are with it at the end of Hack the North, the possibilities for future features are endless. We also wanted to build something that everyone can make use out of.
What it does
greetings (Hello, !) answers questions with google searches (who is Kanye West?) reminders (remind me to brush my teeth at 10am) recommends restaurants (find restaurants near 25 Brant st. Toronto) gets you Uber rides (I need an uber to 25 Brant st. Toronto)
How we built it
- created Facebook page
- used Facebook API to send messages back
- used wit.ai for the parsing, neuro-linguistic programming and machine learning of messages being sent to page
- used Google API to answer questions with Google Searches
- set scheduled events that trigger reminder messages for reminders
- used Yelp API to recommend restaurants
- used Uber API to order rides
Challenges we ran into
- Uber API (authentication)
- Facebook (had to create new page to message to because Facebook flagged us because of the amount of messages our page was receiving and we could no longer receive messages back)
- integrating many APIs
- training our bot (with wit.ai)
- not having a front end for our application that we didn't have control over
What's next for Chio
We’re going to continue to use wit.ai to increase its number of intents (things it can do) and validating messages so that Chio can continue to learn!
