China Media Presence Overview

Inspiration

The fascination about data and its potential uses was the reason for me to participate in the hackathon. The project was initially only for the hackathon, but as I started reading more about the State based manipulation in social media, I became interested in finding more about the problem as well as provide a possible solution to guide further research into the domain.

What it does

It gives the overview of the data provided as well as possible insights. Also, has a small dashboard to explore the data concisely.

How we built it

IT was build using in R and quarto. The core data used was the data given in the hackathon, as well as some general statistics from published research.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenges was the time constraints as well as the lack of micro data available for the given social media accounts. I was not familiar with web scraping and the APIs were further relatively complex.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I managed to complete the report in time, and extracted some insights from the data given.

What we learned

I learned about the problem of State intervention on social media as well as more principles of Data visualization and publishing.
