Inspiration

Chimu was born from curiosity — a desire to explore how far artificial intelligence can go as a storytelling tool. I wanted to prove that a sensitive, emotional story could be built entirely with AI without losing the human spark behind the idea. The inspiration came from watching how a cat reacts to the unknown, and imagining that even what we fear might be feeling the same fear toward us.

What it does

The short film tells the story of a black cat who is afraid of a corner in his house, where he discovers a monster that is also scared. What begins as mutual fear slowly turns into play. Beyond the plot itself, Chimu aims to show the emotional potential of AI when used as an artistic and narrative medium.

How we built it

The entire project was created with artificial intelligence over a continuous 20-hour production process. The concept, script, and initial sketches were developed using ChatGPT. Images and environments were generated with Google Gemini. Animation was produced in Kling. Original music was composed with Suno. Sound effects were created using ElevenLabs. Each tool became a different member of the virtual production team, showing how AI can collaborate as a unified creative force.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was maintaining visual and emotional consistency across all AI tools. Each model has its own logic and limitations, so achieving continuity and a coherent mood required extensive experimentation and fine-tuning. Working for 20 hours straight without rest also tested focus and endurance, balancing the technical execution with the emotional depth of the story.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a fully emotional and visually cohesive short film made entirely with AI — from the first concept to the final frame — is something I’m truly proud of. Every frame, note, and sound was generated from scratch, proving that AI can be a creative ally rather than just a technical instrument.

What we learned

I learned that the true power of AI doesn’t lie in what it does for you, but in how it amplifies your vision. Technology reflects the creator’s intention: when your purpose is to convey genuine emotion, even an algorithmic model can feel alive.

What's next for Chimu

The next step is to expand Chimu’s universe with new short stories exploring different emotions, all built with AI as the expressive medium. I also plan to develop an interactive version where viewers can explore Chimu’s house and meet other hidden characters that live in its shadows.
