Inspiration
Chimes on a calculator makes the task of crunching numbers a bit less monotonous, and so the prompt of Mashup mania was the perfect opportunity to let the desire for spicing up a task that would initially be boring shine through.
What it does
It is a basic calculator that randomly cycles through 6 notes.
How we built it
We used HTML, Java script, and CSS, while making use of experience gained from past projects. Also made use of resources like stack overflow, W3 schools, and lecture slides provided by the event organizers. We began working on the backend of the project, such as the functionality of the calculator, before moving on to CSS to improve the design of the calculator further.
Challenges we ran into
The calculator would not properly do math. 2 hours before the deadline, we managed to get the calculator to perform operations. It was around this same time that we managed to get the notes playing as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to achieve most of the goals we planned to achieve. We cleared the biggest hurdle of getting the calculator to function as it should.
What we learned
We furthered our soft skills such as organizing, communication, and adhering to a plan. We also learned how to use HTML, and git.
What's next for Chime Calculator
We will be adding a functioning volume button, more calculation expressions, different instrument sounds in a dropdown picker, a theme picker, and a font button.
