WE ARE NEW HACKERS
How we Built It
Our energy efficiency web app is designed to empower users to save energy, reduce costs, and make meaningful contributions to sustainability. The app is built on three key domains: energy efficiency, understanding, and its features, ensuring Chill-O-Watts delivers a practical, inclusive, and engaging experience. In the energy efficiency domain, the app helps users track their energy consumption in real time by integrating with smart devices like Iot energy management systems, power strips, and smart plugs. It provides actionable insights, breaking down energy usage by appliance, time, and room, so users can identify inefficiencies. Through interactive quests, like “Run your laundry during off-peak hours to save energy,” the app guides users toward sustainable habits. Gamified daily quests, like reducing power usage during specific hours or turning off idle devices, incentivize these behaviors with rewards and streaks to keep users engaged and motivated. The understanding of the energy usage domain ensures users gain a deeper awareness of how their behaviors impact energy consumption and costs. By providing clear, easy-to-digest visualizations, the app simplifies complex energy data. Users can see patterns, such as which appliances consume the most energy or how peak hours affect their bills. This domain empowers users with the knowledge to make informed decisions, from adopting energy-efficient habits to evaluating the benefits of upgrading to smarter, more sustainable devices. The features domain blends functionality with innovation (and a touch of brain rot). Users can form groups to participate in collaborative challenges, such as dorm-wide or neighborhood energy-saving goals, fostering a sense of community. Advanced algorithms analyze energy data to provide tailored recommendations, while geolocation-based tips adjust advice to match local weather conditions and energy rates. Additionally, the app includes a background music feature to create a “pleasant” and engaging environment while interacting with the platform. By uniting energy efficiency, understanding, and robust features, our app transforms the often-overwhelming process of managing energy into a secure, fun, and impactful experience that inspires users to make sustainability a part of their daily lives.
Challenges we Ran Into
THE PEARAI FREE TRIAL, running the app on ProjectIDX, coordinating the directories, understanding what the heck we were doing, formatting
Accomplishments
LOSE BRAIN CELLS.
What we Learned
Implementing separate parts of a program through Github, how to do this whole thing (even though it dont work)
What’s Next for Chill-O-Watts
Implementing a leaderboard for users to compete with friends or other communities, scale up the energy usage data (community energy, city energy), more large-scale or “big goal” quests (yearly/seasonal quests that would have a more drastic change on an individual’s impact on sustainability ).
