Inspiration
Inspired by the challenge statement from Children's Health Sponsor
*Who are you? * Who's in the Room – Currently there is no way for patients to know which staff member walks in and out of their rooms during at their stay at the hospital. The patients don’t remember the staff who came to their room. It would be nice to have solution where the staff information is recorded and displayed to patients in their room. The staff information should have the date time/entered, date/time left, picture, name, title of the person, specialty and any other relevant information of the staff that could help the patient identify who the staff is.
What it does
It takes cartoon characters that are assigned to each of the staff members, and displays them on the patient's portal so that whenever a staff walks in ( they scan their tag, which has a barcode, and also a cartoon character drawn on it). This same cartoon is then displayed on the patients portal, for ease of relativity, and can later also be found as a card on the portal with more information. The children can always just refer to their doctor as their cartoon character instead of the real doctor name. And everyone around plays along as well. This way the children fit in well, and feel like they are in a disney story, which can help them a lot mentally in times of need. With all this we also efficiently keep track of the time in and out, and also the other important details that are necessary.
How we built it
We used React Native and MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting MongoDB to JS, due to fewer good resources online. However the mentors at the hackathon were really helpful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning curve and sprint performance with the overall output.
What we learned
Apart from MongoDB, and React Native, we as a team learnt that it's important to know your strengths, thereby allowing the team to have a faster initial setup.
What's next for Children's Cartoon Visitor
In the future, we would like to have the QR-Scanner implemented, so that the scanner can actually scan and push in the time for the database to make use of it.
