Inspiration
Children of Sirius: Nubia Rising (A Time Before Wakanda) was inspired by the Dogon tribe of Mali, the indigenous Nubian kingdoms, and the cosmic legacies of ancient Egypt. It is a homage to these civilizations, reimagining what a Wakanda-like universe might have looked like 5,000–10,000 BC. This project was born from the desire to show that African mythology and history have always carried the weight of epic storytelling - long before Marvel introduced Black Panther.
What it does
The film is a sci-fi historical concept trailer that blends mythology, action, and futurism. It imagines a time before Wakanda, Dogon star messengers returned as cosmic warriors, and deities descended from Sirius to reclaim Earth’s forgotten throne. It’s a story where ancestral memory collides with cosmic destiny.
How I built it
The project was developed using a combination of AI visual tools, editing software (Picsart, CapCut and related platforms). AI was used as a creative partner, while the storytelling, symbolism, and cultural research remained rooted in human imagination and intent. The result is a cinematic teaser trailer designed to feel both mythic and futuristic.
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge was time and cost limitations. I envisioned adding more layers, scenes, and elements to deepen the world-building. However, due to time constraints and the expense of using multiple advanced AI platforms, I had to scale back some of my ideas for this first version of the trailer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of • Creating a unique Afro-futurist vision that honors the Dogon, Nubian, and Egyptian legacies. • Blending cinematic grandeur (Zack Snyder-inspired style) with African mythology. • Producing a concept trailer that feels epic while maintaining cultural authenticity.
What I learned • AI enhances creativity but must remain a tool guided by human imagination. • Narrative depth and cultural roots make a project resonate beyond visuals. • Responsible storytelling requires authenticity and respect when reimagining indigenous heritage.
What's next for Children of Sirius: Nubia Rising (A Time Before Wakanda) The journey doesn’t end here. Beyond inspiring a future director to bring this saga to theaters by 2044, I’ve already developed Part 2, titled Children of Sirius: The Rise of the Kushite Surfer. This extended trailer expands the universe further and continues the narrative thread of Nubian cosmic destiny. Part 2 has already been completed and will also be submitted, pushing the vision of this Afro-futurist saga into new mythic territory.
