Inspiration

A child is a blessing from the Almighty, born through a mother’s womb. Children are the next generation who determine the future of society. Every child is born with unique abilities bestowed by God. Therefore, children require proper guidance so that their growth and development remain aligned with the rapid advancement of technology and the ever-changing times, especially with the rise of limitless information and communication.

However, in reality, parents cannot supervise their children 100% of the time. This is due to the demands of work and business activities. As a result, many children develop misbehavior and fail to receive proper guidance in their growth. This is evident from the increasing cases of juvenile delinquency in society, and the fact that children’s abilities are often limited only to what they learn at school or in their immediate environment. Consequently, their inborn talents and potential remain underdeveloped.

This situation raises concern for everyone, because children—who should grow with love, care, and parental attention to nurture their abilities—often do not receive what they truly need. This concern has inspired the creation of “Ruang Anak” (Children’s Space), a facility designed to help parents accompany their children during their developmental years while also providing children with a place to explore and develop their abilities, supported by guidance and learning programs for both children and parents.

What it does

Ruang Anak was established in Magelang, Central Java, based on the observed condition that many children in the area lack opportunities to sharpen their talents and interests due to insufficient parental supervision. This inspired Ruang Anak to emerge in the community—starting from Magelang—offering a three-way learning approach. This approach consists of:

Learning from teachers to children; Learning from teachers to parents about the importance of parenting roles; Supervision and evaluation from parents regarding the learning provided by teachers to their children. This initiative is supported by creative competencies offered to the community, including visual arts and painting, with plans to expand into martial arts and dance in the future.

How I built it

Features Child Self-Discovery Assessment Tool, containing general knowledge questions and personality-related questions to explore the child’s understanding and identify personality traits in children aged 5–13. Child Ability Assessment Tool, aligned with the available competencies (Visual Arts and Painting). The platform provides a space and tools for children to draw, including an online coloring feature that allows them to create artwork after sketching. Online Learning Platform, allowing visual art and painting teachers or coaches to teach children through live interactive video sessions, similar to Telegram or WhatsApp video calls. Online Parenting Guidance, where psychiatrists provide parents with lessons about the importance of proper parenting through the same interactive video feature used in teacher-to-child learning. Payment System, enabling parents and users to pay for services provided by Ruang Anak before the children’s artworks are marketed through social media. Payments are not fixed, as the program is social-oriented; parents and community members may contribute any amount they wish. Artwork Publishing Tool, allowing children’s artwork to be posted on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, as the Ruang Anak application and website are integrated with these platforms to help children receive broader appreciation. Feedback Tool, enabling parents to express concerns, suggestions, and positive feedback to developers, Ruang Anak owners, teachers, and psychiatrists through interactive video. Free Digital Books, providing downloadable PDF books on Visual Arts and Painting, with printed versions available for purchase. Note: Printed books require a separate fee and are not included in Ruang Anak service costs. Educational Videos, offering online and offline (downloadable) video content on Visual Arts and Painting available through the Ruang Anak website and application.
