Inspiration

As a 90s Indian kid, I grew up playing Chidya Udd. I played it with my friends and it was a whole lot of fun. So I thought of reinventing it for the modern world.

What it does

It's a simple game where you look at an object and swipe up if it flies. The game gets faster as the rounds progress testing how fast your reflexes are. Simple and super nostalgic, especially if you are from India. It has multiple modes:

  • Solo mode across multiple speeds, from relaxed to lightning
  • Live multiplayer "Last One Standing", everyone sees the same object at the same instant; last player flying wins
  • Global leaderboards to chase
  • Warm, nostalgic 90s art and sound, instantly familiar if you grew up in India

How I built it

Built with Flutter (one codebase → iOS, Android, and web), a Firebase backend anonymous → Sign in with Apple/Google, Firestore leaderboards, Realtime Database for multiplayer), and RevenueCat powering the one-time "big rooms" unlock. Monetization is a single non-consumable IAP (host 3–6 player rooms) validated server-side by RevenueCat and tied to the player's account so it survives reinstalls.

And I built the whole thing solo, with Claude Code, over a lot of sleepless nights, design, game loop, real-time multiplayer, paywall and the store submissions.

Challenges we ran into

Real-time lockstep multiplayer. Every player must see the same object at the same moment. I sync rounds off the RTDB server clock, with the host pre-generating the sequence and running a per-round "sweep" to catch disconnected or laggy players. Getting that to feel instant and fair took real iteration. Fitting 3–6 live hands on one screen across every phone size without it turning into soup.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The visuals, the simple gameplay and an addictive loop, that keeps players coming back to it. Most people can't stop at a single game, and i feel most proud of that. The entire app intentionally gives more prominence to a devanagri/hindi script to pay homeage to the country it came from, a game that's proud of it's Indian roots

What I learned

Even a simple game like this takes multiple iterations and sleepless nights to get it feel just right.

What's next for Chidya Udd

Badges for players when they level up, or play a certain number of games. Android launch, seasonal objects and themed consumables.
