Inspiration
We, as women, make a majority of our fashion choices, keeping in mind our appearance. Most of us feel insecure about the way we look, and hence most of our choices are guided by the objective of looking “better.” In this process, we disregard the repercussions these fashion choices can have on our health. For example, a woman conscious about her height will resort to wearing 4-inch high heels regularly, even though they can become a cause of osteoarthritis as they put extra stress on knee and foot joints.
What it does
We’re bringing to you an Android application that provides you to relevant resource and advice which will help you better understand the negative effects of the the beauty and style products that you use on a daily basis. As for the name, the French word for "library" is "bibiotheque" - which is essentially what our app acts like. Chicliotheque is a conjunction of "Chic" which means stylish, and "theque" from Bibliotheque.
How we built it
We have used XML for the frontend and Java for the backend of Chicliotheque. We used Firebase to maintain a database.
Challenges we ran into
To begin with, deciding what to work on was a big challenge for us as first-timers. We were faced with a dilemma in choosing between fragment and activity. And eventually, we went ahead with activity. The next problem we faced was with providing the content in a list view and also in working with Firebase. We initially wanted to go add links to websites, however we could not figure out dynamic links, so we're keeping that idea for the next hackathon!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Hack The Gap happens to be the first hackathon experience for all three of us. Naturally, we faced multiple problem as listed above. As three beginners, the biggest accomplishment for us was mustering the courage to compete till the end! We've persisted through many phases of lacking motivation and kept going, and we're incredibly proud of ourselves for doing that!
What we learned
The first attempt at anything is the one the one we learn the most at. As development newbies, this hackathon gave us the opportunity to collaborate with each other, work in a team to design a product. We learnt many technical skills, and got a hand of different things like Git, GitHub, Android Studio, etc. - all the things which we were previously unaware of.
What's next for Chicliotheque App
We would like to add multiple aspects such as dynamic links, better graphics, more interactive interface, and AI/ML features into our App in the coming time.
