Inspiration
One day my partner walked into the kitchen. I asked him to pass me the chicken bouillon. He said "Chicken True or Chicken False". We never laughed so hard about a computer science joke. Our team is made of two systers who finally got to see each other over the holidays. Since everything is shut down, what better way to bond then code together for the first time! Our hackathon project had to be CHICKEN BOOLEAN because chicken bouillon is something we use in almost every recipe as a secret ingredient and reminds us of the holidays!
What it does
This interesting user-friendly website utilizes artificial intelligence to help users decide if their recipe needs chicken bouillon. Since chicken bouillon is impossible to spell, we spelt it every way possible in our site. The website makes it very clear whether or not your should use chicken bouillon through a boolean value of True or False. This is portrayed neatly through graphic images and ensures user's understanding through multiple window alerts. There is even an easter-egg feature to our website. It is an actual egg. The user can press a magic 8 ball looking button on the right of the website and it will tell you if chicken bouillon is in your future (shown with an awesome gif). The real cherry on top is the jams button. This user-friendly and descriptive button lets users enjoy their time on the website by listening to a beat-dropping chicken song by J.Geco
How we built it
We used html, css, and javascript to bring our dream to life. We also used Microsoft Paint and tons of sugar cookies to push through ideas.
Challenges we ran into
Usually we are back-end gals and do not go for style when it comes to projects like these. Trying to figure out some of the nuances of CSS was hard but rewarding(with a sugar cookie). Trying to figure out how to obviously convey our idea of relating booleans to bouillon was a challenge, but a fun one that resulted in many laughs. Trying to get straight lines in Paint with a laptop trackpad was tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to code for fun and creativity made the experience wholesome and brought some Christmas joy. We are proud of embracing our weirdness and also how much website building skills we picked up on. We want to share with our friends that they should code for fun more and showcase our website. We are proud of picking an idea and completely committing to it.
What we learned
We learned that coding can be stressful when outside requirements are needed, but making sure to #selfcare and code for fun and make you realize why you fell in love with coding in the first place. We purposely employed bad coding practices to have fun and make laughs. Choosing funny names for pictures and ids can make all the difference in how much you enjoy coding.
What's next for Chicken Boolean
We plan to add a database with actual recipes that we have made in which chicken bouillon will give that special kick to. Beyond this, we really want to advertise our website to everyone we know so that they may be inspired by our code and sillyness to prioritize laughter during their everyday coding-lives. The theme of our project is Holiday Joy and we were able to experience that because of this hackathon. We hope that Chicken Boolean brings Holiday Joy to others as well.
