SweetSpots:

A web application providing ticket free and safe parking spots in Chicago

Renting a parking space in Chicago usually costs a fortune inevitably forcing people to use street parking. However, periodic street cleaning in addition to high crime rate could exacerbate the burden of owning a car in Chicago.

SweetSpots provides a simple yet helpful solution to suggest to the drivers street parking spots that are both safe, based on criminal history in the area, and ticket free; not scheduled for street sweeping in other words.

All Chicago drivers can simply use SweetSpots via link on PC and mobile phones. By entering the address and date, SweetSpots shows the unavailable streets in red on a specific day while displaying the car break-ins that happened in the previous month using markers on the map.

While other services link only display the section of an entered location, SweetSpots suggests parking spots within the radius of the initial point which could be located in a different ward. Moreover, crime reports help the drivers to prevent unwanted damage to their cars.

SweetSpots borrows the data from City of Chicago Public Data (link). The Crime Map in SweetSpots is updated in real time at the cities discretion. The technologies applied in SweetSpots includes but is not limited to the list below:

Google Cloud App Engine, Google Maps API, Python, Java, Javascript, Ajax, jQuery, HTML, CSS, JSON Github, Pythonanywhere, Glitch Chicago crime data API, Chicago street cleaning data API
