Inspiration
As a guy with Gout episodes i really needed a way to check how much peanut-oil i was consuming. Office Pantry Marathons end me up in bed the next day with my ankles swelling. How come food logging is such a chore ? There had to be an easier way to monitor my food intake. I also wanted to checkout what my other co-workers are eating that i haven't tried
Food logging was an option but the apps require one to constantly tap and give info to the app to track your daily food intake. We toyed with the idea that what if there was an AI that did that for you ? and the information is all in Mongodb atlas ?
What it does
Chibug - Is a dashboard based app that lets you upload your food pics along with others and recommends what others have been eating based on the food's Ingredients
How we built it
We built it from MongoDB's great tutorials like stitchcraft-picstream and the Swagstore with recommendation engine. We used AWS Rekog, Tensorflow for Recommendations and Reactjs for our front-end. For the database we used Mongodb atlas, stitch and charts
Challenges we ran into
Since we were using multiple tutorials that used AWS and Tensorflow(GCP) it was a challenge on how to make a project that used both technologies
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of combining stitch / aws / tensorflow together to produce Chibug.
What we learned
That MongoDB queries can be used to feed info into a machine learning model that recommends
What's next for chibug - An app that monitors what you eat and recommends
We plan on implementing this in our office. So i can finally monitor my Gout!
