Inspiration
When Singaporeans move overseas to work, in the foreign new environment and culture, they might find it hard to integrate into society and feel lonely at times. SGJio aims to bridge the gap by providing a platform whereby Singaporeans who live near each other can mingle and communicate to provide support for one another. We decided to extend this platform for local Singaporeans as well.
What it does
SGJio should enable users to create, search and join a ‘Jio’ that would be visible to other users of the platform. Moreover, it should enable users to add other users as friends/acquaintances on the platform and communicate with them via instant messages. A ‘Jio’ could be any activity, ranging from gathering for a potluck to playing sports and other outdoor activities.
How we built it
SGJio is still currently in a conceptual phase and creation of a production build would require some more time.
Challenges we ran into
The duration for the first submission of the hackathon proved to be a real challenge, due to the extremely tight time constraints. This meant that conceptualizing and designing the features of SGJio took up the bulk of the time. Nevertheless, now that the features and details of SGJio has been finalized, coding the app would be manageable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Brainstorming, refining and finalizing for the SGJio concept.
What we learned
We learnt that the number of Singaporeans overseas is steadily increasing every year so this application, if realised would be able to reach out and benefit many of them.
What's next for SGJio
We will begin coding the application.
