Inspiration
wanted to develop chess and see the backend logic of it.
What it does
object oriented model for chess. It offers two player support and is played on the terminal/DOS prompt
How I built it
design and logic were done on a whiteboard. Classes for every single piece and also enums for game state and piece color. Abstract class for piece instead of interface because interface can only have abstract methods and no implementation - not the case for abstract class.
Challenges I ran into
Design was a pretty big challenge. The logic behind the game itself. Considering the state of the game (check, checkmate), restricting the pieces and moves, having it adhere to all the rules in general was pretty challenging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Finishing it. Implementing castling, stalemate, etc.
What I learned
too much. This project made me realize how important it is to have your design before you touch ANY coding.
What's next for Chess_Engine
developing android chess app (already done).
