Our journey with the chess project began with a shared love for the game—a game that has stood the test of time, transcending generations and cultures. Inspired by the rich history and global community surrounding chess, we were driven to create a digital platform that would encapsulate its essence while offering new avenues for exploration and engagement.

What it does

Our chess platform serves as a gateway to the world of chess, providing users with an immersive and accessible gaming experience. Whether playing against AI opponents or challenging friends to real-time matches, players can delve into the intricacies of the game at their own pace. With adjustable difficulty levels and a sleek, intuitive interface built with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, the platform caters to players of all skill levels. Beyond the gameplay itself, we've integrated features such as in-game chat, a comprehensive game log, and the ability for others to spectate matches, fostering a vibrant and interactive community around the game.

How we built it

Building the chess platform was a collaborative effort that involved leveraging a diverse range of technologies and expertise. We utilized Node.js for the backend, enabling seamless communication and real-time updates through the integration of Socket.io. On the frontend, React and TypeScript provided the foundation for a dynamic and responsive user interface, while Tailwind CSS facilitated rapid development and customization of the visual elements. Underpinning the gameplay experience were sophisticated algorithms such as minimax and alpha-beta pruning, implemented to power our AI opponents and provide players with challenging yet fair matches.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we encountered various challenges that tested our problem-solving skills and creativity. Optimizing the performance of our AI algorithms while maintaining smooth gameplay proved to be a delicate balancing act, requiring careful tuning and refinement.
